Facebook Ad Image Size/Dimensions

The first thing to consider when creating an ad is its image size. There are three main types of images: Square, Rectangle, and Circle. Each one has a specific pixel count and aspect ratio.

Square Images: These images take up 1×1 pixels. They have a width-to-height ratio of 4:3.

Rectangular Images: These images take 2×2 pixels. They have a height-to-width ratio of 3:4.

Circle Images: These images take 3×3 pixels. They have a diameter-to-diameter ratio of 6:5.

In addition to the image size, there are also two other important factors to consider when designing your ads: the placement and the orientation.

Placement: Placements refer to where your ad will appear on the page. You can choose from four options: Top Left, Top Right, Bottom Left, and Bottom Right.

Orientation: Orientations refer to whether your ad is horizontal or vertical. You can choose between two options: Horizontal and Vertical.

When choosing which image size to use, keep in mind that the larger the image, the more likely people are to click through to your website. However, if you go too large, you may end up wasting money because Facebook won’t show your ad to as many people.

When deciding what size to use, think about how much space you have on your page. If you have a lot of room, then you should probably opt for a smaller image. On the other hand, if you don’t have enough room, you should probably opt for something bigger.

To find out how big your ad needs to be, simply divide the total amount of pixels by the number of pixels per square centimeter. For example, if you have a 100 x 50 pixel ad, you would divide 100 by 0.01 10,000 pixels. That means you’d need at least 10,000 pixels to fill the entire area of the ad.

To determine how many pixels you need for each dimension, multiply the length times the width. So, if you wanted to make a 200 x 300 pixel ad, you would multiply 200 by 300. This gives you 6000 pixels.

You can also use the following formula to calculate the exact number of pixels needed:

(Length * Width) / 1000 Pixels Total Number Of Pixels

For example, if you wanted to create a 400 x 600 pixel ad, you would do the math below:

400 * 600 / 1000 2400

So, 2400 pixels would be required.

If you’re not sure how to calculate the exact number, you can always use the above formula to figure it out.

Once you’ve figured out the exact number of pixels you need, you’ll want to make sure that they fit within the dimensions of the ad. To do so, you’ll need to add some padding around the edges of the image. The recommended amount of padding is 5 pixels.

Standard Facebook Ad Specs

Unfortunately, they also come with some limitations. In order to ensure our ads are performing well, we should adhere to certain guidelines.

The first thing we should look at is the type of image we’re using. While most advertisers tend to use standard images, there’s another option available: circle images. Circle images are perfect for creating ads that are visually appealing while still being able to stand out from the crowd.

Circle images are created by taking an existing image and placing it inside a circle. When viewed on Facebook, these images appear like any other photo. But when someone clicks on them, they will be directed to your website.

While this method isn’t ideal for every advertiser, it does offer several advantages over standard images. First, circle images are extremely easy to create. All you need to do is upload your image into Canva (or similar service), then drag the image onto the canvas. Once you’re done, save the image as either a PNG or JPG file.

Next, you’ll want to decide which aspect ratio you want to use. There are two different options available: square and rectangle. Square images are best used for text-heavy ads because they give off a more professional appearance. Rectangle images are better suited for photos and videos.

Finally, you’ll want to choose between landscape and portrait orientation. Landscape images are generally preferred because they provide a cleaner look. However, portrait images are easier to read and are therefore more likely to get clicked.

Facebook Stories

Facebook Stories posts take up space for only five seconds or until the user swipes them away. You need an image ratio of 9:16, which is equivalent to having an image whose height is nine-sixteenths of its width.

  • Image-to-text: 5:1 — If your Facebook Story includes text, keep it under 20% of the image to optimize the Story’s audience potential.
  • Minimum image resolution: Upload the highest resolution available

Audience Network Native Ads

Native ads on Facebook place your brand in the mobile News Feeds (or “timelines”) of users who have visited websites and apps that are within the target audience’s network. These ads’ images need to be uploaded as either Jpeg or Png files with an image ratio set to 16:9. To put it simply, the image’s height must be nine-sixteenths of its width.

Sponsored messages on Facebook, such as an ad by Uber, appear in your audience’s personal inboxes in Facebook Messenger Images should be uploaded in JPG or PNG format with a resolution of at least 900 pixels wide by 600 pixels tall. For example, if the image has a height of 1,600 pixels and a width of 600 pixels, then the image’s aspect ratio is 9:6.

Maximum video duration: 15 seconds per card in a carousel

Instagram Feed Carousels

Like Facebook’s Carousel ad sizes, Instagram feeds can support up to 10 cards per carousel. These cards can be displayed at the top of a user’s Instagram profile page. Images should be uploaded in either JPEG or PNG formats.
